The Reisu-l-ulema of the Islamic Community (IZ) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein ef. Kavazović, sent a congratulatory message today on the occasion of the beginning of the New Hijri Year 1448.
The Hijra, the migration of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, from Mecca to Medina, Kavazović reminded, was a key turning point in the history of Islam and an event that has become a lasting inspiration for generations of Muslims.
“The Hijra was a search for a space of security and freedom in which faith, life, dignity and community would be protected. It did not mean running away from responsibility or giving up. Therefore, its lasting message calls on us to preserve hope, reliance on Almighty Allah and responsibility towards people even in times of pressure, fear and injustice,” Kavazović said in his congratulatory message.
In today’s global turmoil, he added, when many Muslims face insecurity, violence, injustice, and pressures on their freedom and dignity, the message of the Hijra remains relevant: the quest for freedom and security is a trust, and a more just world never ceases to be built through faith, morality, solidarity, and a shared concern for peace and good among people.
“Tomorrow, June 16, 2026, is the 1st of Muharram 1448 AH, the first day of the new Muslim year. On this occasion, I extend my warmest congratulations and wishes to all Muslims in the homeland, Sandžak, homeland countries, diaspora and around the world, with a prayer that the coming year will be blessed and a wish that they spend it with their loved ones in peace, love, mutual respect and goodness. Brothers and sisters, may Allah Almighty shower His mercy upon you and protect you from disasters and difficult trials. Happy New Year 1448 AH,” says the greeting from the reisul-ulema Kavazović, reports MINA.
