Considering the fact that general elections will be held in BiH this year, the Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Ambassador Bruce G. Berton, urged all BH politicians to move away from the rhetoric of division and narrow political interests because it is time for BiH to make a significant progress.

“Political leaders have the responsibility to create a favourable political climate and to work on meeting the real needs of citizens of this country,” said Berton.

When it comes to the work of the OSCE Mission to BiH in the last year, he stated that their purpose is the achievement of a higher level of prosperity and security in BiH, which should lead to the improvement of the quality of life of all citizens of BiH, but that cannot be achieved in just a year.

When it comes to priorities of the OSCE Mission in BiH for this year, he emphasized the continuation of the support to authorities in BiH in strengthening the rule of law, combating segregation and discrimination in education, improvement of the overall situation of human rights in BiH, promotion of tolerance and respect for human rights in local communities, preventing all types of corruption and protecting the freedom of the media.

According to him, the international community will give the support to political leaders when it comes to finding a compromise, but it will not impose any solutions.

“Political leaders, and not the international community, are responsible for the progress in this country,” stated Berton.
