The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Brkić, received today an inaugural visit by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Volodymyr Bachynsky.

At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Brkić welcomed Ambassador Bachynsky, the first resident Ambassador of Ukraine to Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that his appointment represents an important step in further strengthening relations between the two countries. In the continuation of the conversation, both sides confirmed that bilateral relations are friendly and stable, with a clear willingness of both sides to further deepen them.

Deputy Minister Brkić reiterated that Bosnia and Herzegovina firmly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. He emphasized that BiH understands very well the gravity of the challenges that Ukraine is going through and that the two countries share the experience of fighting for peace. He emphasized that preserving peace based on just principles is of essential importance, because only such a peace can guarantee stability and a secure future.

The interlocutors exchanged views on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s progress on its path towards the European Union, as well as on the challenges that accompany this process, especially in the context of the current political situation in the country and the actions of political actors whose positions deviate from the European course. Brkić emphasized that, despite the challenges, European integration remains the main foreign policy goal of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that the country remains fully committed to continuing the reform processes, fulfilling priorities and harmonizing with the EU’s common foreign and security policy.

Deputy Brkić emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains committed to the fight against terrorism and violent extremism and to strengthening regional and international security, emphasizing the importance of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s cooperation with NATO as an important framework for achieving these goals.

Ambassador Bachynsky thanked Bosnia and Herzegovina for its continued and principled support for Ukraine, emphasizing that such support is of exceptional importance, especially in the current challenging circumstances. He emphasized the importance of continuing political dialogue and intensifying cooperation through mutual visits and consultations. He also thanked for the support that Bosnia and Herzegovina provided to Ukraine within the framework of international organizations and relevant resolutions.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors expressed their belief that there is significant potential for further development, strengthening cooperation and the implementation of joint initiatives in areas of mutual interest.
