“This is an important day for us. We can now start a new life and enable our children to live a life worthy of a human being”, said one of the Roma beneficiaries who moved to a  reconstructed house in the Tuzla area.

On 23 August, 5 reconstructed houses were handed over to Roma families living in the Tuzla area in addition to another 8 houses which were already reconstructed under the EU project ‘ROMA ACTION’ and handed over to Roma beneficiaries earlier this year. A total of 13 houses were reconstructed under the ‘ROMA ACTION’ project, for Roma families living in the Tuzla area. These newly reconstructed houses in Tuzla are part of 72 reconstructed housing units for the Roma families within the Roma Action project.

The City of Tuzla is one of nine municipalities/cities included in the project that strongly support Roma social inclusion. The City is actively participating in the project implementation and co-founding the project in the amount of BAM 80.000.  The project ‘ROMA ACTION’ is financed by the European Union in the amount of € 2.5 million and co-funded by local authorities in the amount of € 327.227 (BAM 640.000).

Ministry of Displaced Persons and Refugees of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has allocated BAM 100.000 for seven project municipalities/cities. The Project is implemented by Hilfswerk Austria International, in partnership with Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Deutschland e.V (ASB) and Kali Sara – RIC Association.

The project will significantly improve living conditions and socio-economic inclusion of 140 vulnerable Roma families in 9 targeted municipalities (Tuzla, Gračanica, Banovići, Kakanj, Zavidovići, Zenica, Bijeljina, Modriča, Brčko District BiH).
