Hero of Sarajevo’s Defense passes away, had been for Decades

The Sarajevo Canton War Disabled Paraplegics Association announced that Boris Rajković, who they described as one of the participants in the defense of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war, has passed away.

According to the reports, Rajković was seriously wounded in 1994, after which he fell into a coma in which he spent decades. During that period, he was cared for by his mother Ivanka and sister Mirjana, who, as it was pointed out, left her job to be available to him 24 hours a day.

Due to the need for constant care, Mirjana Rajković later obtained employment with the Sarajevo Canton War Disabled Paraplegics Association as a caregiver. According to them, she previously had no legal rights based on caring for a family member, until her employment was resolved and her seniority was secured with the support of the Sarajevo Canton Center Municipality and the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Veterans Affairs.

The Alliance also recalled the family’s everyday life, noting that the Rajkovićs often emphasized that their greatest support was human attention, not material assistance. “They often said that it was more important to them that someone come and visit Boki than any money, but even those visits were rare,” the statement said, noting that his war comrades who visited him were also rare.

Boris Rajković died at the age of 52.
