High Representative Christian Schmidt visited the FBiH Constitutional Court today and met with the Court President, Judge Aleksandra Martinovic, and her colleagues. He used this opportunity to welcome the appointment of three missing judges to the FBiH Constitutional Court’s Vital Interest Panel. The ability of the FBiH Constitutional Court and its Vital Interest Panel to exercise its jurisdiction is crucial for upholding the Constitution of the Federation of BiH and for the functioning of all entity authorities in accordance with the Constitution.

“With this action, all required steps under my measures of 2 October concerning the appointments to the FBiH Constitutional Court and its Vital Interest Panel are now implemented. Both the Court with 9 judges, and the Vital Interest Panel with 7 judges are now fully functional,” said the High Representative.

Having a functioning FBiH Constitutional Court, after years of delays and political blockades, is an important element in upholding the FBiH Constitution, preventing further blockades, and restoring the rule of law in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
