High-Risk Match in Zenica: Police Deploy Anti-Drone Systems Ahead of BiH–Romania Clash

Today’s match between the national teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Romania at Bilino Polje Stadium in Zenica is expected to draw a full house, with around 700 Romanian supporters also arriving in the city. Although all international fixtures are classified as high-risk, authorities emphasize that this one carries additional challenges – not only because of its importance for both teams’ results, but also due to the ongoing dispute between the most passionate BiH supporters, the Bosnian Fanaticos, and the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Despite confirming their arrival in Zenica, the Bosnian Fanaticos are not expected to cheer from the stands. They recently rejected the FA’s offer of 600 tickets, further intensifying the already sensitive security situation.

With 700 Romanian fans traveling to Zenica, police agencies have declared the event high-risk and have mobilized additional forces from surrounding police departments. Advanced equipment, including anti-drone systems, will also be used to ensure public safety.

ADMIR GAZIĆ, Police Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of ZDK, stated:

“Together with other MUPs, we have provided additional material and technical means that can be used to prevent disruption of public order and peace on a larger scale, as well as anti-drone systems and everything else that will help this meeting go well.”

Zenica has a strong record of hosting major matches without incidents, and local authorities hope that tradition will continue.

Gazić added:

“I would also like to tell all the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and all the fans who have supported the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team for years to show that Zenica is a city of prosperity with their cheering behavior, as before, and to show and express their love for the only Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

Although the pre-match atmosphere in Zenica lacks the once-iconic scenes of streets filled with blue and yellow, fans and players alike hold onto the hope that unity will return – and that tomorrow the “Dragons” will be pushed toward an important victory.
