High school students from five countries at ‘BaLMUN’ Conference in Banja Luka

Radmanovic_BALMUN_2Today, in organisation of Banja Luka Grammar School, an International Conference ‘Banja Luka- model of UN’ (BaLMUN), which gathered students of 16 high schools from five countries of the region and Europe.

‘BaLMUN’ is one of the conferences of model of the UN and it presents the simulation of work of the UN. Such conferences are being held in 80 countries around the world.

Chairman of BiH Presidency Nebojša Radmanović talked to the participants of ‘BaLMUNA’ and noted that BiH, as a member of the UN, in accordance with its possibilities, gives its contribution to the work of the global organisation, and respects international law and principles of peaceful and neighbourly politics.

BiH was a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council from 2009 to 2011, noted Radmanović and added that member of Armed Forces of BiH participate in peace-keeping missions of the UN in several crisis points in the world, and by doing so it gives a contribution to peacekeeping and stability in the world.

He shared his experiences from session of the General Assembly of the UN with the students, and added that the UN is commonly criticised for not stopping conflicts in the world in the past.

‘There are numerous demands for the reform of this organisation and the improvement of its work that are being heard during the past period. I do believe that these conferences can contribute, not just in the meeting of the UN, but also in improving the efficiency of its work’, said Radmanović.

He noted that regardless of its faults, the world would be a very different place without the UN.

‘This world organisation is represents the largest international forum, where all member states can democratically discuss their problems and contribute to peace and stability in the world’ said Radmanović.

He expressed the satisfaction that Banja Luka has joined the group of 80 cities around the world in which these conferences are being held, and added that he’s certain that this conference will contribute in affirmation of the subject in the next three days, and added that this conference will promote the city of Banja Luka, RS and BiH.

‘BaLMUN’ has gathered high school students from BiH, countries of the region and Europe who exercise the best accomplishments of the UN, said the manager of the conference Žana Stević.

During the three-day simulation of the UN, via 4 different committees, participants, formally dressed, will play the roles of diplomats and as delegates will represent the countries they were assigned to.

Young diplomats, will first do a research, and then discuss and try to find a solution for some of the problems we are being faced today, concerning safety, human rights and protection of the environment.
