Historical Day for B&H Sport: Law Adopted on Writing Off Debts to Sports Clubs

dom-narodaDelegates of the House of People of FB&H Parliament adopted today in an extraordinary session the law on payments and partial write off of debts of sports clubs, which is the first systematic step of the state toward sports, sports clubs and sports association in B&H to get a license to participate in international competition, but also to become clubs without tax burdens.

Some of the biggest debtors are the football clubs “Sarajevo”, “Željezničar”, “Sloboda”, “Čelik” and University Sports Association “Bosna” and others. The adoption of this law will enable the privatization of clubs, which are not national, nor private and thus the situation will be different.

“In case sports clubs continue to not pay and to not fulfill their duties after we write off a part of the debt, then a club that is in the first league will be removed to a third or fourth league as it happened with Glazgow Rangers in Scotland. We could not do this to the clubs so far since we did not even try to help them”, said the FB&H Minister of Culture and Sports Salmir Kaplan in a statement for Agency Fena.

This law regulates the conditions, manners and procedures for the payment and will write off the debts of sports clubs in the FB&H until 31 December 2013.
