Hospital in Bihac has been left without Forty Doctors

The cantonal hospital “Dr. Irfan Ljubijankic” in Bihac has a long-standing problem of lack of medical staff, and as of today it has been left without 40 workers. Therefore, its functionality and provision of services to patients could soon be called into question.

As of today, there are 40 fewer workers at the Dr. Cantonal Hospital. Irfan Ljubijankić in Bihać. Specifically, it is about 28 medics employed for a certain period of time, and one of them is Adem Behrem. Today, he wonders what to do next, whether he will be forced, like most of his friends, to look for happiness outside the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

ADEM BEHREM, former employee of KB “Dr. Irfan Ljubijankic”

“We feel rejected, that’s the worst of all. I don’t know, the situation is currently such that I don’t even know what I’m going to do, I’m also thinking about going outside. I’ll wait for the situation to calm down, to see what will happen, how will be…”

The already announced procedure for the employment of workers whose contracts have expired has been suspended, and in the meantime there is no approval from the relevant ministry for the employment of new people. How to solve the problem?

HAJRUDIN HAVIC, director of KB “Dr. Irfan Ljubijankic”

“It’s very simple. The minister should give consent to continue the competition procedure or to give consent to the employment of new people. It doesn’t matter to us. We don’t ask by name and surname to know who is in which position. A public advertisement has been announced for the recruitment of a nurse , I am not interested in the first and last name. Whoever is the best in the competition, let him be employed.”

The hospital fears that the provision of services to patients could soon come into question, and with all that, it is the holiday season.

JASMIN SKALIC, medical technician of the Internal Department

“There are 50-60 patients here every day, plus those who come for transfusions and other examinations. We cover all the outpatient clinics and there is really no one to work. It is really difficult.”

The line minister, Muris Halkic, says that he has nothing against employment, but that he must take care of the financial consolidation of this institution, whose debts amount to almost 18 million BAM. He also invited the director of the hospital for a conversation because, he says, this is the only way to solve this problem.

MURIS HALKIC, Minister of Health, USK

“The Cantonal Hospital does not deal with those basic things, which is financial consolidation, and the most important thing is that we receive daily complaints from fellow citizens who are dissatisfied with the services and quality of services within the hospital. We have to raise it to a higher level and this is one of the ways to start with consolidation when it comes to employment, financing and everything else.”

Dissatisfaction with this situation was also expressed by union members, who believed that it would be impossible to organize work in shifts, that is, to provide adequate care and help to all patients.
