How much does an average Consumer Basket in BiH cost?

The trade union consumer basket calculated by the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina for March this year amounts to 2,448.46 BAM and is 342.46 BAM more expensive than the trade union consumer basket in the same month in 2021. The average salary paid in the Federation of BiH for the month of January 2022 was 1,045.00 BAM (the latest data published by the Federal Bureau of Statistics).

The coverage of the Trade Union Consumer Basket with the average salary is 42.67%.

When making the Trade Union Consumer Basket, the average salary paid in the Federation of BiH was taken into account, as well as the minimum living costs of a family of four consisting of two adults and two children, one of whom is in high school and the other in primary school.

The consumer basket itself consists of the following categories (next to the name is the percentage of participation of each category in the union consumer basket): Nutrition – 44.02%, Housing and communal services – 14.11%, Hygiene and health maintenance – 8.90%, Education and culture – 8.26%, Clothing and footwear – 13.22%, Transport – 5.70% and Household maintenance – 5.79%.

In the category of food, prices from 3 shopping centers for 86 items were used. When it comes to hygiene and maintaining health, the costs for eleven items are included, and for housing and communal services, the costs for six items, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of BiH stated.
