MEP Tineke Strik announced that High Representative Christian Schmidt canceled his visit to the session of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament on November 30.
“It is extremely problematic that Mr. Schmidt has been hiding from the democratic debate on his disastrous changes to the Election Law for two months now,” Strik said.
She urged him to “rethink” his strategy.
We remind you that Schmidt was supposed to come to Brussels at the invitation of a group of parliamentarians.
Parliamentarians from Germany, France and the Netherlands, 25 of them, sent a letter calling on the OHR to withdraw its decisions related to changes to the electoral law in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In their letter, the parliamentarians stated that they are dissatisfied with Schmidt’s decision to impose changes to the Election Law, as well as changes to the FBiH Constitution, shortly after the closing of polling stations in the General Election on October 2, which is necessary for the implementation of the amended Election Law.
The parliamentarians called on the high representative to consider the way he uses the Bonn powers, stressing that the OSCE should give an opinion on the imposed changes to the Election Law.
