Ahead of his upcoming briefing to the United Nations Security Council on 12 May, High Representative Christian Schmidt met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN to discuss ongoing efforts and opportunities to strengthen stability and institutional functionality in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as to advance key reform processes.

The meeting provided the High Representative with an opportunity to brief the Secretary-General on recent challenges to the Dayton Peace Agreement and their potential implications for the region and Europe. He outlined current efforts aimed at preserving stability, including through strengthening the functionality of state institutions, upholding the constitutional framework, reinforcing the integrity of the electoral process, and advancing reforms essential for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European integration path.

High Representative Schmidt thanked Secretary General Guterres and the UN for their commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely in the field of peacebuilding and funding programs and projects of other UN agencies.
