HR on the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on Genocide in Srebrenica

The High Representative Christian Schmidt welcomes the Resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly with the aim to acknowledge and commemorate Srebrenica genocide. Resolution decision underscores the imperative to recognize and honor the tragic events that transpired in July 1995 in and around Srebrenica.

“The Resolution needs to be seen as an expression of international commitment to upholding the dignity of survivors and honoring the legacy of those who were killed. It is imperative for a society to reject any attempts to minimize or distort the gravity of Srebrenica genocide. The Resolution must serve as a catalyst for healing and understanding, rather than being exploited for narrow political objectives. It is not an act targeting the Serb people or Republika Srpska. Any attempt to put this Resolution into such context is inaccurate and ill intended”, said High Representative Schmidt.

The High Representative calls on all stakeholders in Bosnia and Herzegovina to join forces in the pursuit of trust building as the basis for enduring peace, prosperity and development of Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of the European family.
