Vijecnica (2)The City Hall is ready for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. All construction and other works in the premises of the City Hall and the exterior around the building is completed. All that is left is for the Ministry of Physical Planning of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to formally issue a Usage Permit,” confirmed to FENA the project director on behalf of the supervisory body Hasan Ibrahimpašić.

He added that on June 2, they handed over to the Sarajevo City Council, which is the holder of the building permit, the documentation of completion of works.

He pointed out that the City Hall is currently closed to visitors because of the technical staff that is preparing for a long-awaited concert of the Vienna Philharmonic.

“We expect the Ministry of Physical Planning of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to formally issue a usage permit, after which it the problem about taking over the building will be solved. We finished everything that was in our contract, and even more than that,” he stressed.

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Franz Welser Möst will perform in Sarajevo on June 28, the day that marks the 100th anniversary of the Sarajevo assassination and the beginning of World War I.

The repertoire of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which will perform in the renovated City Hall (Vijećnica) in Sarajevo, will include works of Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Alban Berg, Johannes Brahms and Maurice Ravel.

At the concert in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, this renowned Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the anthem of Europe – the music from the last part of the 9th Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven (adaptation: Herbert von Karajan) and “Palms of Peace” – Josef Strauss waltz.

105 members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will perform in Sarajevo.

Conductor Franz Welser-Möst was born in 1960 in Linz.

Since 2010, Welser-Möst has been the general music director of the Vienna State Opera. In 2011, he conducted the New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonics for the first time, and based on its success, he was engaged in 2013 as the conductor of the New Year’s concert.
