Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Una-Sana Canton Vladimir Mitkovski presented all the current statistical data on monitoring the movement of migrants in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the thematic session of the Bihac City Council.

He confirmed that currently 1,954 people are accommodated in official reception centers in the Una-Sana Canton (USC), as well as the fact that 2,413 of them are outside the centers, i.e. on city streets, unfinished buildings and public areas, Fena news agency reports.

“The International Organization for Migration (IOM) operates in more than 50 countries, where we conduct some kind of organized exercise or action to monitor the movement of migrants. Last Friday, we did it in BiH, that is, on the same day, together with our partners, we located and counted all persons who are currently outside the reception centers. There are a total of 3,220 of them in the country, of whom 2,413 in the USC or about 75 percent of the total number of people. There are 1,205 of them in Bihac alone, and that is why, unfortunately, we can say that their uncontrolled stay is actually a problem that affects the state of cleanliness in the city,” said Mitkovski.

He also emphasized that since the opening of the first reception center in the USC, on July 25, 2018, a total of 30,564 people have passed through the official centers in this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“That is the number that passed through the official reception centers in this canton, and only in the centers in the area of Bihać, there were 20,890 of them. This is only the data related to the reception centers, where some people stayed for one or two nights, and some for a year,” said Vladimir Mitkovski.

Currently, 647 migrants are accommodated in the tent settlement at the Lipa site, 224 of them are in the “Borici” center in Bihac, 783 in “Miral” in Velika Kladusa, and 300 in “Sedra” in Cazin.
