ICC again prevented a Cyberattack on its System

The International Criminal Court (ICC) said it had identified and contained a targeted “cyber incident,” the second such attack in two years.

The ICC said the incident occurred “late last week,” describing the attack as “new, sophisticated and targeted.”

An ICC spokesman told AFP it could not be more specific about the timing of the incident.

The court is based in The Hague, which hosted world leaders including US President Donald Trump for a summit of the 32-member NATO military alliance last week.

In 2023, the ICC suffered what was called an “unprecedented” cyberattack that was later revealed to be an espionage attempt.

The court’s statement did not give details about a potential suspect in last week’s attack, but the institution is currently handling several high-profile cases.

It has an arrest warrant for President Vladimir Putin over the deportation of children from war-torn Ukraine to Russia.

Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is in ICC custody awaiting possible trial for alleged killings committed during his so-called “war on drugs.”

The ICC has also issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Gaza war.

That sparked outrage in Washington, and Trump imposed sanctions on senior ICC officials, including four judges and chief prosecutor Karim Khan.

The ICC prosecutes individuals suspected of the world’s most serious crimes, including war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
