It’s Ramadan time, and in accordance with what the chosen month brings, the municipal authorities in Čelić are trying to do something for their fellow citizens who are fasting for the second year in a row.
Namely, people who are in a state of social need, old or living alone are provided with iftars that are delivered to their home address. In a gesture that is worthy of all praise, they also have the support of the people who work on the preparation and delivery of iftar.
“I can’t thank you enough for how much it means to me, because I can’t, it’s not because I don’t have anything, thank God,” says Fadila Čirić.
“I was happy last night, Sarma. We love everything, cooking, everything that comes is really nice, it’s great, we are grateful”, says Muharema Mešković.
“It’s Ramadan, they’re old, alone, exhausted, their children are mostly abroad, they can’t prepare for themselves, who wouldn’t be happy about this,” says delivery man Samir Mešić.
And on the table, which is prepared for them in a local restaurant, there is everything: goulash, Bosnian pot, sarma, chicken, stuffed peppers…
“We made a weekly menu, every day there is a different type of food, we have sweets, every day homemade cakes”, says chef Asima Bešić.
Thus, every day during the month of Ramadan, iftars are prepared and delivered to 150 people. Everything is financed from the municipal budget.
“Last year it was about thirty BAM, maybe this year it will be a little more, and considering that it was the initiative of the majority in the Municipal Council and me as the mayor, I think that the tradition will continue in the future,” said the mayor of Čelić, Admir Hrustanović.
Part of the iftar is also intended for returnees to Koraj.
