The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, received 93.9 percent of the votes and convincingly won the fifth mandate in the presidential elections held today, according to exit polls.
According to an exit poll in Azerbaijan, Aliyev won 93.9 percent of the votes in the presidential election, while the second independent candidate who followed him got 1.8 percent, Anadolu news agency reports.
Voter turnout reached 76.73 percent, the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan announced.
According to Azerbaijani legislation, the President of the Republic is elected for a term of seven years.
Early presidential elections in Azerbaijan were called by Aliyev back in December, and regular presidential elections were supposed to be held in October 2025.
The previous presidential elections were held in April 2018.
