Deputy chief of the EU Delegation in BiH Renzo Daviddi said today in Sarajevo that the regional cooperation is high on the list of priorities of the countries of region in the aspect of accession to the EU, noting that parliaments have a significant role in that process.
”Significant progress has been made in the region, from cooperation concerning internal affairs and judiciary to the field of transport, energy, over-border cooperation and other”, said Daviddi to journalists before the beginning of the meeting of members of the Commission for European Integration of BiH Parliament, RS National Assembly and FBiH Parliament as well as representatives of Brčko District, which was organised as a part of the initiative ”Parliament for Europe”.
According to him, the role of parliaments on the road towards the European integration is the ratification of bilateral and multilateral agreements, as well as tracking and guiding the work of governments on that path.
The goal of the meeting is that members of BiH Parliament, RS NA, and FBIH Parliament, and representatives of Brčko District discuss manners in which the regional cooperation can be more efficiently used for intensifying the process of accession to the EU.
Guests of today’s, fifth session of the ”Parliament for Europe” were secretary general of Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Goran Svilanović and state secretary for European Integration and the head negotiator for leading the accession negotiations of Montenegro to the EU Aleksandar Andrija Pejović.
Svilanović said that the parliamentary cooperation is a priority of RCC.
He added that in South east Europe, parliaments as legislative bodies have the central role in promoting and enacting reforms, especially in the framework of European agenda, and in the context of joint endeavours with the aim of harmonisation of legislature with the legal heritage of the EU.
”Parliamentary cooperation must enable that those decisions enacted by governments during the year, become decisions that all those who deal with politics are well acquainted with. Everyone in the political life of a country must know entire process of accession to the EU, which lasts for years”, noted Svilanović.
He praised initiatives from BiH, which are concerning with the closer cooperation of countries of the region in the process of accession to the EU, noting, concerning the fact that we are in different stages of the European path, that we can learn a lot from each other.
Aleksandar Andrija Pejović also noted the importance of regional cooperation and significant role of the parliament in the process of accession to the EU, who expressed the readiness of Montenegro to help, with its own experiences, to BiH on its path to the EU.
”Yesterday we had very useful talks with representatives of the Directorate for European Integrations of BiH and BiH Ministry for Foreign Affairs concerning the issue how to jointly work and to create the best possible approach to the new IPA funds. We hope that the Stabilisation and Association Agreement will soon come to power in BiH”, said Pejović.
Improvement of regional cooperation in the interest of accession to the EU was the topic of today’s session of ”Parliaments for Europe”, whose organiser was EU Delegation in BiH.
