Due to weather changes in the past 24 hours, this morning an improvement in air quality was recorded in most of Bosnia and Herzegovina compared to the previous day.
According to data at 8:00 a.m., only in the Brod area did the air quality index reach 116, which places the air in the category of unhealthy for sensitive population groups. In other places, the air is moderately polluted – Kakanj and Visoko record indices of 57 and 63, Sarajevo 75, and Doboj and Banja Luka 83.
In the Brod area, as well as in other cities with moderately polluted air, sensitive groups – people with respiratory and heart diseases, the elderly, pregnant women and children – are advised to avoid prolonged or intense outdoor activities. A similar recommendation applies to the rest of the population.
Data from the NGO Ekoakcija shows that this morning the air quality was good in Vogošća, Hadžići and Živinice, where the index was 50. An even better situation was recorded in Livno (33), Zenica (46), Bihać (25), and in Trebinje and Mostar, where the air quality index was only 13. The cleanest air was also measured this morning in Ivan-sedlo, with an index of 13.
The air quality index is based on measurements of concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 particles, ozone (O₃), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), sulfur dioxide (SO₂) and carbon monoxide (CO). PM particles (“particulate matter”) are very small particles that are invisible to the eye, and the number next to the label indicates their size.
