Increase in Tourist Arrivals to BiH in the First Two Months

Tourism in BiH is a fast-growing sector making up an important part of the country’s economy. In recent years, BiH has seen a stable growth in the number of foreign tourists, showing great potential for the future.

The report continues by presenting the statistics on Jan. and Feb. 2019, explaining that tourists paid a total of 141,114 visits, which is higher by 9.8 percent year-on-year.

Tourists realized a total of 333,530 overnight stays, a 12.4 percent increase compared year-on-year.

Tourists from Estonia stay the longest in BiH with an average 5.4 night stays, second are tourists from Latvia with 5.2 nights, and third are from Island with 4.9 nights.

According to the type of accommodation, the largest number of overnight stays was realized in hotels, with a participation of 93.7 percent.

In addition, the Federation of BiH, one of country’s entities, was visited by 64,574 tourists in March, higher by 8.7 percent year-on-year. A total of 116,242 overnight stays was recoded in March, a 5.0 percent increase year-on-year, BiH’s Federal News Agency reported on Monday.

The total number of tourist overnight stays in March 2019 was 116,242, which is five percent higher than in March 2018, and by 19.4 percent compared to February 2019. The share of domestic tourists in total number of overnight stays was 29 percent, and foreign tourists 71 percent. According to the type of accommodation, the largest number of overnight stays was made in the hotels with a participation of 94 percent, the data of the Federal Bureau of Statistics pointed out.

In the structure of overnight stays of foreign tourists, most of the overnight stays were realized by tourists from Croatia (19 percent), Italy (8.9 percent), China (5.8 percent), Serbia (5.8 percent) and Turkey (5.1 percent) which is a total of 44.6 percent. Tourists from other countries realized 55.4 percent of the overnight stays.
