As part of planned activities to combat crimes – theft and aggravated theft in a particularly dangerous or particularly brazen manner, especially in the light of the increased influx of tourists in the area of Canton Sarajevo (CS), since the end of April, the Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of CS has implemented measures to increase the presence of police officers in the most frequent locations when it comes tothe commission of these crimes.

At the same time, the Police Directorate of the CS Ministry of Internal Affairs implements operational-tactical measures and actions in order to prevent the execution of the mentioned criminal acts and to catch the perpetrators at the scene.

In that way, teams of police officers in the previous period legitimized and identified several persons inclined to commit these criminal acts, and for whom there is operational knowledge from an earlier period.

Objects and articles originating from the commission of criminal offenses were found in the possession of a few, and the measures and actions provided for by law were taken against those persons.

Considering the fact that several persons who repeated the commission of criminal offenses and who are not citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) were observed on the ground, communication was established with the Field Office for Foreigners – Sarajevo, in order to deal with such persons in the future.

Since the beginning of the implementation of the activity, the Police Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the CS recorded a satisfactory decrease in the number of reported criminal offenses from Article 286, the so-called “pickpocketing”, especially in the micro-locations that proved to be the most frequent in the commission of these crimes – the narrower area of the Old Town, public transport stops and promenades.

Citizens are urged to pay more attention to personal belongings and valuables in closed areas and shopping centers, especially when there is more crowding, and not to open their bags and wallets in front of people who are begging, announced the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the CS.
