In accordance with the Plan of Intervention Measures in Cases of Excessive Air Pollution in the Sarajevo Canton, inspectors of the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton (KUIP) are conducting increased inspections in order to reduce polluting emissions into the air and to protect the health of the population.

Cantonal environmental inspectors and urban planning and construction inspectors are conducting inspections of the actions of heat producers and combustion plant operators, who are obliged to ensure that all heat production plants with a capacity of over 50 kW that use solid and liquid fuels reduce the temperature by at least two degrees Celsius.

Inspections are also being carried out in the area of the ban on outdoor construction work that produces dust emissions into the air.

In the last 24 hours, since the declaration of the ALARM episode, inspections have been carried out of the provision of the Plan on the temporary suspension of all technological processes that result in dust emissions into the air, where technically feasible. In the last 24 hours, cantonal inspectors have carried out 28 inspections in response to the above circumstances and are taking all measures stipulated by law in accordance with the established factual situation.

The inspections cover the entire Sarajevo Canton, with the note that inspections of the implementation of the provisions of the Intervention Measures Plan and the Decision on the Protection and Improvement of Air Quality (“Official Gazette of the Sarajevo Canton” No. 23/16) are carried out continuously and will continue after the end of the episode.

“The Inspectorate of Urban Planning, Construction, Housing and Environmental Inspection coordinates activities with municipal inspections that are responsible for controlling the execution of works in open spaces for which approval is issued by the competent municipal service. According to the information collected in the municipalities of Centar and Novi Grad, from which we have received feedback so far, no irregularities have been registered,” the statement states.

Cooperation has also been established with the municipal guards service of the KJKP “RAD”, who visit the field and inform the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs about all irregularities and possible violations of established irregularities related to construction sites.

“We remind you that for violations of the aforementioned decision and the Plan, fines are prescribed in the amount of 1,000 to 5,000 KM for a legal entity, from 500 to 1,000 KM for a responsible person in a legal entity, and a fine for a natural person – employer in the amount of 500 to 1,000 KM. Information on the conducted inspections and the established factual situation is also submitted to the relevant ministry on a daily basis,” the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs announced.
