The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Sarajevo today held a solemn ceremony to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s Proclamation of Independence at Wisma Indonesia, attended by some 130 guests.
Presiding over the event was H.E. Mr. Manahan M.P. Sitompul, Ambassador of Indonesia to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The ceremony featured active participation from Indonesian students in Sarajevo, underscoring the important role of youth and education in the bilateral relationship.
The gathering brought together Embassy staff, the Indonesian diaspora, migrant workers, students, and Friends of Indonesia, alongside former Bosnian ambassadors to Indonesia. This broad participation reflected the strong community spirit and the growing bonds between the peoples of both nations.
Ambassador Sitompul emphasized that the commemoration goes beyond national pride, it is a testament to the enduring friendship and mutual respect between Indonesia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. He highlighted people-to-people connections as a vital pillar of bilateral relations, reinforced through cultural exchanges, educational cooperation, and the active presence of Indonesians living in the country.
The event also served as a platform to celebrate the warm solidarity that has characterized Indonesia–Bosnia and Herzegovina relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties, paving the way for continued collaboration in culture, trade, and shared values of justice and prosperity.
