International Conference ”Energy Efficiency and the Local Community”

Energy Efficiency Conference nap.ba”Energy Efficiency and the Local Community” is the topic of the international conference organized by the City of Sarajevo and the German Society for International Cooperation – Open Regional Fund for Southeast Europe – energy efficiency (GIZ) which started in Sarajevo yesterday within the manifestation ”Energy Days Sarajevo 2015”.

Besides the representatives of the cities-signatories of the Memorandum on Understanding with the aim of ”Creating the network of energy efficient capitals in Southeast Europe”, Freiburg, Zagreb, Tirana, Podgorica, Skopje and the host-Sarajevo, the conference is also attended by the representatives of the municipalities and cities from B&H, as well as representatives from BH companies from public and economic sector.

With welcoming words, the conference was opened by the Prof. Dr. Ivo Komsic, the Mayor of Sarajevo, who pointed out the need for the implementation of proactive energy policy.

”In March 2009, the City of Sarajevo signed a Covenant of Mayors, joining the Union of over 6.000 cities of Europe gathered with the aim of providing rational usage and management of energy in urban areas, in accordance with the existing European legal framework in that area”, Komsic pointed out.

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to B&H Christian Hellbach paid tribute to the City of Sarajevo, the mayor Ivo Komsic and his associates for the leadership in the organization of this exceptional conference, which represents a contribution in the fight against climate changes.

”The City of Sarajevo demonstrated leadership in B&H in preserving healthy environment and rational using of energy, thereby classifying itself in the European family that cares about the ecological future of Europe and the world”, said the Ambassador Hellbach.

At this conference, within which three sessions are to be held, the institutional and legal frameworks will be presented, as well as the examples of good practice, projects of public and private enterprises, and the financial and technical mechanisms of support in the field of energy efficiency in B&H, it was announced from the City Administration.
