The documentary film ‘Blum – Masters of Their Own Destiny’,directed by Bosnian and Herzegovinian (BiH) filmmaker Jasmila Zbanic, produced by Deblokada and co-produced by BiH Radio Television (BHRT), will have its international premiere on February 22nd, 2025, at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, as part of the prestigious Doc Fortnight festival.
The MoMA is considered one of the world’s most influential cultural institutions, and the Doc Fortnight festival annually presents the most significant new achievements in global documentary filmmaking, providing a platform for films that stand out with their themes, artistic expression, and social relevance.
“It is a great honor to present our film at the MoMA in New York and to launch its international distribution in this way. The story of Emerik Blum and his collaborators shows how vision, courage, and innovation could shape society, and we hope that this film will inspire new generations to believe in the possibility of positive change,” Zbanic emphasized on the occasion of this important premiere.
The film ‘Blum – Masters of Their Own Destiny’ was produced in collaboration between Deblokada, BHRT, the German production company Razor Film, and in cooperation with Fabrika and the Sarajevo Film Center.
Following a successful domestic premiere at the Bosnian Cultural Center in Sarajevo, the film continued screening at the Meeting Point cinema, where audiences can still watch it. Premieres in other cities across BiH are expected soon. In parallel, Deblokada, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education and Science, is organizing free screenings of the film for students across the country.
‘Blum – Masters of Their Own Destiny’ presents a fascinating story about Emerik Blum and his collaborators, who, despite numerous challenges, managed to rebuild war-ravaged BiH from the ground up, creating one of the most successful regional and, in certain segments, global companies – Energoinvest.
This film is not just a story about a company but serves as an important historical document, highlighting the innovation, vision, and courage of past generations. Through an inspiring narrative, the film particularly engages with young audiences, motivating them toward change and fostering a positive societal impact.
The film’s production was supported by the Sarajevo Film Fund and the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Canton Sarajevo (CS).
