International Scientific Conference “Šefik Bešlagić and Stećci” on 9 May in Sarajevo

stecciThe international scientific conference “Šefik Bešlagić and Stećci” will open on Friday, 9 May at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo.

This gathering corresponds to the nomination of Stećci on the UNESCO World Heritage List and is a significant step forward towards a fuller understanding of these important remains of medieval Bosnian history.

The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy Salih Fočo will give an opening speech of the conference, followed by introductory lectures by Professor Dubravko Lovrenović ‘’Directions for Future Research of Stećci’’ and Mirela Mulalić-Handan and Mirzaha Foča ‘’Serial Nominations ‘Stećci, Medieval Tombstones’’ for inclusion in UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

A film called ‘’Stećci, Petrified Witness of Time’’ will be shown, which is a production of U.K.N. Art-Sef from Visoko.

The conference will last two days and 41 reports in nine different thematic panels will be presented, announced the Society for the study of medieval Bosnian history ‘Stanak’.
