Interview with Dzeko: I feel like I just started playing Football, it’s not Time to retire

Edin Džeko was a guest on Turkish Ekol TV, where he talked about his career in the Sport Bülteni show.

The Fener captain announced Saturday’s derby against Beşiktaş at the very beginning.

“Sometimes, if a team is in a bad period, winning the derby can make the fans forget everything. I think Beşiktaş sees an opportunity here. They have good players. The derby will not be easy,” said Džeko.

He also commented on the previous season in which Galata was the champion.

“Last year we did not win the title even though we won 99 points. This may be the first time in history that something like this has happened to a team.”

Dzeko also referred to a recent event when a young Galatasaray fan asked him “Why Galata and not Fener?”:

“People see what they want to see. We were at a charity match between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in Pendik. I also signed the shirts of Galatasaray fans there. Sometimes you can make a mistake. I tried to joke with that boy. When you make a mistake, you have to accept it. Of course, everyone has the right to support the team they want, but my children are definitely Fener fans.”

Although he is 38 years old, our national team player is still not thinking about the end of his career.

“I’m 38 years old, but I feel like I’ve just started playing football. Things can’t always be perfect, but you have to work on your progress. If you want to be a better player, you have to know your shortcomings. I don’t think now is the right time to retire. I feel it both in training and on the pitch. I have a lot to give to a club that wants me, and age is just a number. I think I can compete with young players. I’m not thinking about becoming a coach at the moment,” said Džeko.

Edin Džeko, who commented on Fenerbahçe not winning the Super League championship for 10 years, said, “My job is to do my best on the field. The club expects this from me. It is not normal for Fenerbahçe not to win the championship for 10 years. I have been here for a short time, but we could not win the league despite getting 99 points last year.”

Edin Džeko said, “It was sad and embarrassing for us that such a team could not become champions after doing everything on the field. But it did not happen. We could not become champions. We need to look forward.”

Finally, he commented on the trial in Turkey.

“Good question, but I won’t go into details. There are people who need to talk about this topic. My job is to give my best on the pitch. However, it’s not normal for a team like Fenerbahce not to be league champions for ten years.”

Edin Džeko has played a total of 22 matches in all competitions for Fenerbahce this season. He has scored 13 goals and added three assists.
