The High Representative of BiH, Valentin Inzko, in his address to the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) stated that BiH demonstrated a serious commitment to the EU membership in the last six months.
He submitted the report to the Secretary-General of the UN on the status of peace implementation in BiH, which refers to the period from October 22, 2016, to April 21, 2017.
Talking about the path of BiH towards the EU, he recalled that the European Commission submitted a questionnaire in December, adding that all levels of government got the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to this path by answering questions.
Moreover, he praised the adoption of the document called “Review of the Defense”, which was adopted by the Presidency of BiH, and which represented one of the conditions for activation of the Action Plan for NATO membership.
He added that relations between BiH and Serbia at the regional level continue to progress, which was largely contributed by the Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdic.
As an example of a political disagreement that took place, Inzko noted failing to implement the decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH that declared the Day of the RS as unconstitutional, and there were some proposals for federalization of the country, which some people understood as a further attempt for ethnic division of the country.
The High Representative of BiH noted that the agreement when it comes to the future arrangement of BiH with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was not reached as well, which was supposed to contribute to the fiscal stabilization of the country.
He also believes that it necessary to finally find a solution for the problem of Mostar, in order for the citizens of this city to be able to choose their local representatives, which has not happened since 2012, and it requires a compromise.
Considering all opened issues, he called on all political leaders in BiH to work together in order to find ways to overcome the problems of the past and work on important reforms in order to achieve a real economic progress in our country.
