Iran arrested several Suspects in the Attacks in Kerman

Mourners mourned the victims of two deadly explosions in Iran on Friday, and the interior minister said more suspects had been arrested in connection with attacks claimed by Islamic State.

Crowds chanted “revenge, revenge” on state television footage from a funeral in the city of Kerman, the scene of Wednesday’s blasts and the bloodiest such attacks in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Almost a hundred people died in explosions at the commemoration of the military commander, General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in Iraq in 2020 in an attack by an American drone.

The blasts came amid heightened tensions in the region as Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza enters its third month.

Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi told state television that several suspects had been arrested.

”The relevant intelligence agencies of our country found very good clues regarding the elements involved in the terrorist explosions in Kerman,” said Deputy Minister of Interior Majid Mirahmadi.

”People who supported this incident or were connected to it were arrested in cities in five provinces. The details will be published in the next few hours,” state news agency IRNA reported yesterday his words.

On Thursday, the Islamic State announced that two of its members detonated belts with explosives in a crowd that had gathered around the Soleimani monument in the city in the southeast of the country, reports Reuters.
