Selma Kukic and Nejra Odobasic are two hardworking, successful business women who will participate in the Half Ironman competition in Austria, this year in August. In this competition they will swim 2 kilometers, cycle 90 kilometers and then run 21 kilometers. As recreational athletes, they have additional credit for preparations for such a demanding competition, because they managed to successfully include many hours required for triathlon training in their already full business schedule.
Selma Kukic is a leader on the project of mental health in BiH, which is funded by the Swiss Government in the framework of the Association XY. She was engaged in the martial arts and she recorded several appearances as a representative of the Academy of Martial Arts Bushido Sarajevo. She underwent the basic training for parachutists in the Sky Dive Club Banja Luka and safely performed four parachute jumps, three solo jumps from the height of 1,000 meters and one tandem jump from a height of 4,000 meters.
Nejra Odobasic is 26 years old, from Sarajevo, she finished the Masters in Electrical Engineering in Sarajevo and works as a programmer.
Her love for sports comes from her parents, and she started with more intensive involvement in sports in college when she started swimming, mountain biking and fencing (club Walter). After graduation and employment, she started to get more seriously engaged in running, prepared for the first half marathon and in the meantime, as she says, “met a fantastic team from the Association Marathon Sarajevo that gives her additional motivation and advice.” She is motivated by wonderful, positive people who surround her every week on training or races by moving their limits, improving time, completing the Ironmans, while they are successful family and business people and never take the smile off their faces.
At the beginning, Selma and Nejra were running alone or in a small group, but the number of runners today grew to dozens of people that you can see on Sundays on Vrelo Bosne (Spring of Bosnia River), which reflects the expansion of this sport and proves a fantastic thing that the Association Marathon is doing.
