Is it possible for Brcko District to be mine-free by 2024?

The Principal Deputy High Representative and Brčko District Supervisor, Michael Scanlan, applauds today’s milestone handover ceremony of the former Mine Suspect Area of Brčko East. The Brčko authorities’ vision of a District free of mines by 2024 is becoming a reality.

This would not have been possible without the commitment and expertise of the Mines Advisory Group, BHMAC, and the Brčko Public Safety Department, as well as the funding provided by the US State Department’s Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement.

Mine clearance not only contributes to public safety, but it restores land that can be used to promote tourism, the agro-processing industry, and infrastructure development, thereby serving as a catalyst for further economic growth of the District. In that context, the Supervisor applauds the project “Digitalization of Demined Land Management in Brčko District,” led by NGO “Posavina bez mina,” to accelerate this process.
