The Cantonal Public Utility Company “Vodovod i kanalizacija” d.o.o. Sarajevo reacted to misinformation spreading on social media about the alleged unsuitability of drinking water quality in Canton Sarajevo (CS).

“The water in the supply system managed by the Cantonal Public Utility Company “Vodovod i kanalizacija” d.o.o. Sarajevo is under constant control and is safe to drink,” the company stated.

They emphasized that in the past few days, inaccurate information and doubts about the water quality in the supply system managed by the Cantonal Public Utility Company “Vodovod i kanalizacija” d.o.o. Sarajevo has begun to circulate.

“Health safety control of the water in the public water supply system under the jurisdiction of the Cantonal Public Utility Company “Vodovod i kanalizacija” d.o.o. Sarajevo is performed every day, including weekends and holidays. The Water Quality Control Laboratory at “Vodovod i kanalizacija” d.o.o. analyzes about 30 water samples daily for physical-chemical and microbiological water quality parameters. The laboratory is equipped with sophisticated analytical instruments, so periodic analyses for specific parameters such as metals, pesticides, mineral oils, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, disinfection by-products, anionic detergents, cyanides, and fluorides are conducted in accordance with the Regulation on Health Safety of Drinking Water. Samples are taken throughout the urban area, covering all supply directions from all sources supplying the city of Sarajevo,” stated, “Vodovod i kanalizacija”.

They further noted that in addition to the Water Quality Control Laboratory at Cantonal Public Utility Company “Vodovod i kanalizacija” d.o.o. Sarajevo, water control from the public water supply system under the jurisdiction of Cantonal Public Utility Company “Vodovod i kanalizacija” is also performed by the Euroinspekt d.o.o. Sarajevo laboratories, the Institute for Water d.o.o. Bijeljina, and the Center for Radiation Protection at the Public Health Institute of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH).

“All analysis results confirm that the water quality in the public water supply system under the jurisdiction of Cantonal Public Utility Company “Vodovod i kanalizacija” d.o.o. Sarajevo is within the standards prescribed by the Regulation on Health Safety of Drinking Water,” they noted.

In case of any doubt about the health safety and quality of drinking water, citizens can contact the Water Quality Control Laboratory at 033 483 415.
