In the heart of war-torn Syria, in the northwest near the city of Idlib, a new beginning has emerged for many families.

Projects funded by the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), in collaboration with the Muslim Charity Organization “Merhamet” and the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation IHH, have provided shelter and hope to people enduring great hardships.

In a settlement symbolically named “Bosnian Neighborhood,” 42 residential units were built, offering a home to orphaned families, a total of 212 individuals.

Alongside the homes, two schools were constructed – one in the city of Soran and another in Cobanbey. Both schools were named BiH and have the capacity to accommodate up to 1.500 students. Education, the key to a brighter future, is now within reach for Syrian children.

The mosque in Soran, named the Bosnian Martyrs’ Mosque, is the crowning achievement of this project. In a city where many mosques were destroyed during devastating earthquakes, the new mosque is not only a spiritual center but also an architectural masterpiece, ranking among the top three in size and beauty within the city.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Friday, November 22nd, 2024, was attended by representatives of the Riyasat, Merhamet, and IHH. The Head of the Riyasat’s Office for Social Care and the representative of the Grand Mufti, Ibrahim Malanovic, had the honor of leading the Jumu’ah prayer at the request of Soran’s Mufti.

“On this blessed day, the day of Jumu’ah, we have opened the mosque. When the earthquake struck last year, we decided to help the people of Turkey and Syria, and we collected funds. We resolved to build 42 houses, two schools, and this beautiful mosque. Today, we gift it to the people of Syria, and for those who contributed, we sincerely pray to Allah to accept it and record it as a good deed,” Malanovic said during the mosque’s inauguration.

“We strive to preserve the memory of our martyrs, as well as the martyrs you have given. We hope to remain in your prayers as you perform salah in this mosque. Thank you to everyone – thank you to the Islamic Community, IHH, and to you. This was done solely for your benefit,” stated Kenan Vrbanjac, President of “Merhamet”, MINA news agency writes.
