Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced today that the Israeli embassy in Ireland will be closed “due to the extreme anti-Israel policies of the government in Dublin.”
Israel recalled its ambassador in May, after Ireland became one of three EU countries to announce that it would unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state.
Ireland has not recalled its envoy to Israel, Israeli media reported.
The Irish government last week voted to join South Africa in an attempt to convict Israel of genocide at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
“Ireland’s anti-Semitic actions and rhetoric against Israel are based on the delegitimization and demonization of the Jewish state and on double standards,” Sa’ar said.
He assessed that Ireland had “crossed all red lines in its relations with Israel”.
“Israel will invest its resources in promoting bilateral relations with countries around the world in accordance with priorities that also stem from the relations of various countries towards it”, announced the Israeli minister.
Sa’ar said that there are countries that are interested in strengthening ties with Israel, but do not yet have an embassy in that country.
He announced that Israel will open an embassy in Moldova, which already has an embassy in Tel Aviv.
