Syrian state media reported that Israel carried out an airstrike on the ancient city of Palmyra in central Syria on Wednesday, as tensions in the region simmer over Israel’s brutal war in the Gaza Strip.
Syria’s state news agency SANA said the attack targeted residential buildings and an industrial zone in the city.
There was no immediate word on casualties or damage.
Israel, which rarely comments on military operations, has been carrying out airstrikes in Syria since 2011, targeting Iranian and Syrian forces and Hezbollah targets.
Israel has continued its deadly offensive on Gaza since last year’s Hamas offensive, killing nearly 44,000 people, mostly women and children.
