Israeli Airstrikes Target Houthi Positions in Yemen Amid Escalating Regional Tensions

Yemen’s Houthi group reported today Israeli airstrikes on the western city of Al-Hudaydah.

Houthi-run Al-Masirah television reported the news without giving any details about injuries or damage. Footage posted on social media shows smoke rising from the area.

The Israeli military confirms that it attacked Houthi military targets in the areas of Ras Issa and Al-Hudaydah in Yemen.

In a statement released on Platform X, the IDF said that “in today’s large-scale air operation, dozens of air force aircraft including fighter jets, refueling and intelligence aircraft… attacked military targets of the Houthi terrorist regime in the areas of Ras Isa and Al-Hudaydah in Yemen”.

“The IDF attacked the power plants and the seaport, which are used to import oil,” the IDF statement said.

Several videos and photos have been published on social media that appear to show an Israeli attack on the Yemeni port of Al-Hudaydah, the BBC reported.

The same source states that missiles fired from Yemen towards Israel were intercepted on Friday and Saturday.

Regional tensions have escalated over Israel’s brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed nearly 41,600 people, mostly women and children, following a Hamas attack on October 7 last year.

The conflict has spread to Lebanon, and Israel has launched deadly attacks across the country, killing more than 800 people and injuring more than 2,500 since September 23.

Several Hezbollah commanders were killed in the Israeli strike, including its leader Hassan Nasrallah, AA writes.
