The Israeli army announced this morning that it targeted southern Lebanon after several mortar shells were fired into Israeli territory.
The missiles fell in the disputed area of Mount Dov on the border with Lebanon, and there were no reports of injuries or damage, Israeli media reported.
“The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) is taking preparatory measures for this type of possibility and will continue to operate in all regions when necessary to ensure the safety of Israeli civilians,” the statement said.
The announcement came a day after Israel faced a surprise attack by Palestinian Hamas from the Gaza Strip in the south.
Hamas and other Palestinian organizations involved in the armed struggle with Israel are also present in Lebanon, AFP reminds.
