Citizens are outraged by the New Increase of Gas Price

A new “blow” to citizens’ pockets is expected, the price of gas in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been announced to increase by about 5 percent. The decision is up to the Federal Government. This kind of request by Energoinvest for the minister of communal economy in Sarajevo Canton is unjustified. Citizens are also outraged.

An increase in the price of gas in the Federation of BiH by 4.96 percent was requested. In its request, Energoinvest states that Russian Gazprom Eksport submitted a new price of natural gas for the fourth quarter of this year.

The request for the correction of the price of natural gas was submitted to the Government on October 6, 2023 and in summary results in a total increase in the price of natural gas in the percentage amount of 4.96 percent compared to the price from the previous quarter. The increase in the price of natural gas was influenced by the increase in the price of oil derivatives, which influence the formation of producer prices of natural gas, according to Energoinvest.

Now the approval of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is awaited. The Minister of Utilities in Canton, who is also the largest user of natural gas, expects the Government to reject such a request.

Firstly, because Energoinvest made a half-year profit of almost 8 million marks and had a difference in the price of natural gas of 15 million marks. This increase for Sarajevo means somewhere around 3 million marks and I think I have given the answer as to how I can amortize this increase,” said Almir Becarevic, Minister of Economy of CS.

However, if the Federal Government adopts it, the consequences will be borne by the citizens, who are already outraged by numerous price increases.

Citizens are justifiably outraged.
