Lake Blidinje is the largest natural lake in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), located on the plateau of the Blidinje Nature Park, at the foot of the Vran and Cvrsnica mountains. This beautiful blue eye is located at an altitude of 1184 meters. The lake can be reached from the direction of Tomislavgrad from the west, or from the northeast from the direction of Jablanica. The lake itself was created by human activities 150 years ago, but the valley in which the lake is located is of moraine or glacial origin, and is extremely shallow – only 3-4 meters.

This region is known for cattle breeding, and the goat cheese from Blidinje is also widely known. During previous visits to this area, people had the opportunity to try homemade products prepared by the local population, and could not decide on just one delicacy.

Since the lake is located in the area between two very important mountains, which influence the local climate, the Mediterranean and continental climate meet here, and the climate is very harsh with temperatures below zero for six months. The wind is not at all harmless, and it is advised to anyone who wants to visit the high Dinaric mountains to prepare well with winter clothes and equipment.

In the surroundings, you can find more than 200 endemic species of plants characteristic only for this area, and the lake is inhabited by the endemic fish ostrulja.

In addition to being a true oasis, Blidinje also has numerous stecci, and skiing on the slopes of Cvrsnica is also offered. Of course, for lovers of hiking, there is the famous Vran with all its beauty and challenges.
