At yesterday’s central British manifestation for marking the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, in Westminster Abbey in London, a Bosniak member of the B&H Presidency held a speech.

“I join you today in Westminster Abbey, in this dignified marking of the Remembrance Day, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. We are gathered here in order to remember the 8.372 Bosniak men and boys who were killed in Srebrenica 20 years ago, to pay tribute to thousands of those who survived genocide and had to continue their lives with a permanent heritage of tragedy. We gathered here to try to understand and look back at what happened in Srebrenica, to learn the lesson about the genocide in order to understand its consequences”, said Izetbegovic at the beginning of his speech.

A global public condemnation of genocide will help such evil not to happen ever again, considers Izetbegovic.

“Great Britain is the first country in Europe and the world to hold a commemoration on the occasion of genocide in Srebrenica, and promote a truth about what happened there, also, it is the first to start education about the genocide in order for the entire world to know more about this tragic event. Great Britain is the only country that claimed the Srebrenica Remembrance Day.

Near 200 events will be held this year throughout Great Britain on the occasion of the genocide in Srebrenica”, said Izetbegovic.

Izetbegovic expressed his satisfaction that the foundation “Remembering Srebrenica”, financed by the Government of the UK, plans to establish the first Srebrenica memorial center at the world level, which will deal with education in the fight against hatred and intolerance through the leadership and the network of commemorations, learning and educational activities.
