The most famous songwriter from BiH Jadranka Stojaković passed away yesterday in Banja Luka, at the age of 66.
Jadranka Stojaković had been suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis for a long time, and she passed away last night in the Banja Luka Special Center “Ivan Pavao II” Home for Elderly People, where she has been staying lately.
Stojaković was active on the music scene of the entire former Yugoslavia until the war, especially in Sarajevo, where she was one of the symbols of the festival “Vaš šlager sezone”. She was known for her performances where she sang, played the guitar and the mouth organ, all at the same time.
Her songs Što te nema, Sve smo mogli mi, Muzika je svirala, Čekala sam and others will be remembered by many people.
During the nineties, Stojaković was staying in Japan where, in addition to her career of a performer, she also worked as a composer and created music for different purposes, including video games.
Her significance for the history of pop rock music in Bosnia and Herzegovina is reflected in the promotion of the sung poetry, acoustic guitar and the traditional Bosnian instrument saz.
Stojaković was born on July 24, 1950 in Sarajevo, where she embarked on her unique musical career. During the late 1970s, Stojaković started dealing with making covers of Bosnian sevdalinkas, the old urban love songs, as well as with the interpretation of poetry of the Serbian poet Desanka Maksimović in a new musical arrangement. She also made music for television (Children’s shows of the Television Sarajevo), and she wrote the introductory theme music for the 14th Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo in 1984. She has been living in Japan since 1988, until she returned to Bosnia in 2012.
