The Japanese government has announced that it will send $1 million in emergency aid to earthquake-stricken Taiwan.

Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa said that the Taiwanese people have generously provided aid following the earthquake on the Noto Peninsula on New Year’s Eve.

“As important friends, Japan and Taiwan supported each other in every challenge they faced,” he added.

Stating that they want to help Taiwan recover and rebuild as soon as possible after the earthquake, Kamikawa emphasized that he will continue to provide the necessary assistance.

One million dollars worth of emergency aid, including food, water and medical supplies, will be flown to the region through the “Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association”.

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the city of Hualien on the east coast of Taiwan on April 3.

According to official data, 12 people have been killed and 1,133 injured in the earthquake so far, AA writes.
