Jewish “Simon Wiesenthal” Centre urged Bosnian Authorities to ban the Mass

The “Simon Wiesenthal” center urged the Bosnian authorities on Friday to ban the mass that should be held in Sarajevo on Saturday in memory of those killed in Bleiburg, Avaz news portal reports.

Most of the people for whom the mass is being held were associates of the Ustasha regime, who tried to flee the judiciary after the end of World War II, the Simon Wiesenthal Center said in a statement.

According to the Center, Maks Luburic, who was in charge of concentration camps in Croatia, was among those who will be remembered at the mass, in which hundreds of thousands of Serbs, Jews, Roma and anti-fascists were brutally killed.

The statement reminds that the Mass should be led by Cardinal Vinko Puljic, the highest-ranking priest of the Catholic Church in BiH.

Paying tribute to one of the greatest criminals of the Independent State of Croatia is not only an insult to the victims and their families, but also to all those who opposed the crimes committed by the Ustashas.

We would appreciate it if your Government would prevent this travesty of remembrance and justice from taking place – wrote Efraim Zurof.
