President of the United States (U.S.), Joe Biden, has addressed the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an airstrike by Israeli forces.
Biden stated that Nasrallah, along with the terrorist group Hezbollah, was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Americans during four decades of terror, emphasizing that his death represents a “measure of justice” for his many victims, including American, Israeli, and Lebanese civilians.
Biden pointed out that the attack occurred within the broader context of the conflict that began with Hamas’ massacre on October 7th, 2023, after which Nasrallah decided to open a “northern front” against Israel. The U.S. president reiterated his full support for Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah, Hamas, and other terrorist groups supported by Iran.
In the same statement, Biden confirmed that he had ordered the Pentagon to strengthen the defensive position of U.S. forces in the Middle East to prevent further escalation of the conflict and reduce the risk of a wider regional war. He added that the U.S. is working to de-escalate the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon through diplomatic means and is aiming for a ceasefire agreement and the return of displaced people to their homes.
