The newly built tunnel Karaula between Sarajevo and Tuzla will be opened to traffic next Tuesday.
This is a section Kladanj – Podpaklenik on the main road M-18, and the use of the new road will shorten the journey between the two cities for nearly three kilometers and significantly improve the safety conditions of travel.
The total length of the newly built road is 4,246 meters, and it is consisted of four bridges with a total length of 675 meters, the tunnel Karaula with the length of 902 meters and 2,669 meter route.
The section is designed for driving with an average speed of 80 km / h, the width of the road is 2 x 3,25 meters, while the width of the slow lane is three meters.
To recall, works on the tunnel Karaula started on the 13th of August 2014, and it was penetrated in January 2015. Besides the tunnel in the length of 902 meters, an evacuation tunnel with the length of 460 meters was also constructed.
Between 80 and 120 workers were involved in the construction of the tunnel, and it was intense 24 hours a day every day of the week days. Breakthrough of the tunnel was performed by the company Strabag AG Austria in partnership with the local company Entea Ltd. Sarajevo.
According to latest information, the agreed value of the work was 24,257,083.13 BAM with VAT, and the investor is the Roads of FBiH.
