Kemal Sanjta returned with his family to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) from Ireland four months ago, where he has worked for the world’s largest companies for the past ten years. There are many reasons, and one of them is that he wants to give back to society what he is best at – knowledge.

Sanjta returned to Zenica with his family in November last year after considering moving from Ireland. The options were numerous, but returning to his hometown of Zenica and the possibility of hybrid work for Cisco, of which he is now an employee, seemed to be the best option.

He responded to an Amazon job ad on Twitter

In an interview, Sanjta said that he went to Ireland primarily for professional development. Working for large international companies seemed like an interesting option and he decided to check how much knowledge acquired in the previous part of his career was applicable in the global labor market. He responded to the ad of Amazon on Twitter, whose employee he became back in 2011.

Although he is aware that most people today, unfortunately, are leaving BiH for economic reasons, he states that the primary reason for leaving was professional advancement. After Amazon, he worked at Facebook (today’s Meta), Workday, and startup ThousandEyes, which was bought by Cisco and is currently their employee for the past four years.

Hybrid work as a pandemic advantage

The pandemic enabled companies, especially in the IT sector, to see the benefits of hybrid (online) work, and the interlocutor and his family got another motive to return to their hometown of Zenica. After professional development, another reason for his return is the desire for his children to get to know the culture from which he came.

“After returning to BiH, we decided to do something useful. I wondered how I could contribute to society, from politics onwards. I realized that it is best to give what I know best, and that is knowledge in what I do. I wanted to give something back to the community I came from. I realized that it is best to do it within the framework of formal education, which was recognized by the Faculty of Information Technology in Mostar, headed by the esteemed dean Dr. Nina Bijedic, where I teach 3rd and 4th year of study, ” added Sanjta.

He works for Cisco from BiH full time online

He mentioned that working in a startup provides interesting dynamics, but also leaves a lot of freedom to employees to do jobs that are beyond direct responsibility, which makes the job more fun and interesting. During the pandemic, Cisco was one of the first to see the advantages of the hybrid mode of operation, and Kemal is now working from Zenica.

Sanjta has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in cyber security from the National College of Ireland in Dublin, and he also enrolled in a doctoral program that is set to begin in March, with which he would complete his formal education.
