Legendary UFC champion Habib Nurmagomedov paid tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, sharing an emotional post to mark the 31st anniversary of one of the worst crimes in Europe since World War II.

Nurmagomedov, via his Instagram story, which is followed by more than 43 million people, shared a post from a well-known Muslim platform, which features a poignant photo of a Srebrenica mother who is tearfully praying among the white headstones of the Memorial Center in Potočari.

The photo was accompanied by the message:

“Today marks 31 years since the Srebrenica genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

The Russian fighter of Dagestani origin, one of the most popular MMA athletes of all time, thus joined numerous people around the world who have paid tribute to the victims of the genocide and reminded of the importance of memory and the truth about Srebrenica.

We remind you that the 31st anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica was marked yesterday in the Potočari Memorial Center, and the remains of ten more victims of the genocide were buried.

Thousands of people gathered in Potočari to pay their respects to the killed Bosniaks, whose names are written on the white targets of the Memorial Center. The commemoration was attended by survivors, victims’ families, representatives of institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as numerous guests from all over the world.

Habib Nurmagomedov’s announcement is another reminder that the memory of the victims of Srebrenica goes beyond the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that the message about the need to preserve the truth about the genocide continues to resonate around the world.
