The killing of the Bosniak population in Ahmici and Vitez this year will be marked under the slogan “Looking for truth and building co-existence”.

On this occasion, the organizers of memories to the victims of this place in central Bosnia will hold a press conference on Friday, April 12th.

Also, the commemoration will be held at the mosque in Ahmici, and will continue with religious and educational programs until April 18, when the anniversary of the terrorist attack on residents of Stari Vitez will be marked. At that day, a tank bomb was thrown on Bosniak residents by HVO members.

The Ahmići massacre was the culmination of the Lašva Valley ethnic cleansing committed by the Croatian Community of Herceg-Bosna’s political and military leadership on Bosnian Muslim civilians during the Bosnian War in April 1993.

The massacre of the the Ahmici was the biggest massacre committed during the war between Croats and the Bosnian government (dominated by Bosniaks). The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague ruled that these crimes were crimes against humanity in numerous charges against Croat political and military leaders and soldiers. In particular Dario Kordić, political leader of Croats in Central Bosnia was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
